Grab Buckets

Features of the Multi-Rope Grab Bucket

Features

  • Does not use electricity so can be used for aqueous sediment work.
  • The size of the grab bucket can be increased by selecting a larger crane (up to 50m³).
  • Can increase efficiency several ways, such as by increasing speed or automating operation.

Environmental considerations

As with the single-rope type, the grab bucket itself does not have any drive source therefore it does not use electricity or fuel so it is considered environmentally-friendly.

Mechanism

Grab buckets for mobile cranes, deck cranes, unloader cranes open/close and move vertically by utilizing two mechanisms, hoisting (support) and open/close (multiple) on the crane.
The following 1 support rope - 1 open/close rope (2 rope type) and 2 support ropes - 2 open/close ropes (half-sided hoisting 4 rope type) are generally used for multi-rope type grab buckets.

  • 1 support rope - 1 open/close rope (2 rope type)
The size of the grab bucket should be within the limits of the crane’s single wire rope hanging capabilities. Suitable for relatively small cargo handling due to quick up/down, open/close and maneuvering capabilities of the grab bucket.
Examples: Mobile cranes (truck cranes, crawler crane, etc.)

  • 2 support ropes - 2 open/close ropes (4 rope type)
This method enables use of grab buckets that are larger than the buckets for the 2 Rope Type, and are suitable for high-speed, large cranes used to grab large amounts of cargo.
    Examples: Unloader cranes, deck cranes
